Before You Judge — Make Sure You Know the Whole Story
Before we judge someone’s actions, motives, or character, we should ask ourselves: Do I actually know the whole story?
Joshua 2 tells us that two men of God entered the house of Rahab, a woman known as a harlot. If all we knew was that one fact, we might quickly form conclusions about their character. But we wouldn’t know that they had been sent by Joshua to spy out Jericho, that Rahab hid them from the king, or that God was accomplishing something far greater through the situation.
Rahab herself came to recognize the true God, was spared when Jericho fell, became part of David’s lineage, and ultimately became an ancestor of Jesus Christ.
The lesson is simple: don’t form a judgment from a few facts when God knows the whole story. Proverbs 18:13 warns us that answering a matter before hearing it is “folly and shame.”
Before we repeat something, condemn someone, or decide we know what happened, perhaps we should stop and ask: Do I really know the whole story?
