Does God allow Free Will? Are we free to choose what we believe?

Does God allow free will?  Are we free to choose what we believe or disbelieve? I got this question from someone I know.  There are many opinions on this subject. The short answer here is “Yes”.  Yes God allows free will. The main focus of this post is about people have the choice to believe or not believe in God.  They have a choice to believe in Jesus or not.  They have choice to seek salvation through repentance and being born again or not.   God is not going to force anyone to choose him.  God isn’t going to force someone to believe that Jesus came, died, and rose again for all of us so that we may have ever lasting life. The choice is up to each and every individual.  Some would say why does God send people to hell?  God doesn’t send people to hell they choose to go there through unbelief, disobedience, not repenting (Luke 13:5) and being born again (John 3:3),  and dying while living in sin. God wants everyone to repent, be born again, and live forever with him. Think about it for one second.   If God did not allow free will then why do we have murders (verses on murder), war, abortion, homosexuality (verses about homosexuality), child abuse,  divorce (verses about divorce), people lie (verses on lies), and many other things.  Which is sin and he hates sin.  The bible is clear on this.  According to a quick google search there are over 45,000 christian denominations world wide.  There are also over 100 translations of the bible.  Nine hundred or so paraphrases or partial translations.  The questions is why?  The answer is “Free Will”.    We would all be the same if God didn’t allow free will.  There would be only one denomination.  No need for churches, preachers, pastors, teachers, or evangelist(Ephesians 4:11).  No need for the Bible for that matter.  Even in the garden of Eden there was free will.  Eve was tempted by the serpent to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Genesis Chapter 3). God wants people to choose him and to obey him freely.  God isn’t going to make someone live a certian way either.  They have to chose to live for him or not to. For those who don’t believe in God.   So you choose to believe in evolution and the big bang theory.   All the matter in the universe collapsed into a tiny spec them boom.  Big explosion and everything was created and we all evolved from a primordial puddle of goo. First coming out of the water and walking on land then evolving to apes.  Followed by the form we have today.  The question is where did the matter come from to collapse into that tiny spec?  How was that matter created?   Scientists say they don’t know.   Since you don’t believe then you believe this life is it for you.  Yes, you will die.  What if you are wrong?  What if hell and the lake of fire are real (verses about hell)?  The Bible I read describes it as a place of eternal torment.  Again, what if you are wrong, do you really want to go there?  Just for the sake of argument, what if I am wrong?   I died with a lot of hope and won’t know the difference. I choose to believe that God created all things (Genesis 1:1-31).   He sent his only begotten son (John 3:16) to suffer and die for all of us and to rise on the third day that we might have eternal life.  Through an act of grace,  love,  and mercy.  The perfect sacrifice to cover all of our sins. I choose to believe I have a place called heaven to be my home for eternity (verses about heaven).  I choose to believe this is not all there is.  I have placed my all my faith, trust, and confidence in God.  The choice is up to you.  You have to choose to believe or not (Free Will).  You have to choose to repent (change your mind, turn around, flee from your sins and stop living in sin), pray for Gods forgiveness, and pick up your cross and follow Jesus or not.  Ultimately the choice is yours through free will.  Do you chose to believe in God or not?  Do you chose to believe in Jesus or not? God Bless You! Faith Is Our Focus A few verses that support freedom of choice. Deuteronomy 30:19-2019 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: 20 That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them. Joshua 24:15 15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Romans 10:9 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Proverbs 1:29 29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord: Revelation 3:20 20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. John 7:17 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

MATTHEW 19 KJV

19 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan; 2 And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there. 3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? 4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. 7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? 8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. 9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. 10 His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry. 11 But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. 12 For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it. 13 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. 15 And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence. 16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? 17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. 18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, 19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? 21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. 23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? 26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. 27 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? 28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. 30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
